Every now and then I want to step away from drawing my own characters but I have a hard time thinking of any alternatives. After I responded to machinemess’s post asking for refs I’ve been thinking I should do the same, and that I should start an actual collection of refs.
So, give me your refs and any additional material you think would be helpful, such as written stuff that provides insight into the character’s personality. I will say I have a preference towards strange creatures and monsters.
In order of go: Astrae. I think. She’s going through Changes.
2 sketches for Ahkaskar. One is a quick scribble of his character in Kaiju form, and then I accidentally a FF Behemoth/vaguely Jinouga- version of him. Been playing too much Monster Hunter, what can I say? The energy over the head area will make more sense in color. I think I want to take this to flat colors at least if that’s ok `___`.
And then a sketch for Snakefeathers. I flat colored in greyscale since there’s a lot going on and there are badly drawn trees, haven’t drawn anything with a background in years, etc.
If anyone else wants to drop me some more character refs, feel free. I don’t draw very much, but it’s nice to have a little pool of characters to pull from when I don’t feel like drawing any of mine.
Oh yes, the Behemoth version is awesome. That shape fits him perfectly.

SUPER LATE EDIT: Green energy indicates the presence of neogeen’s energy being character. Ahk’s base energy is the blue-purple color in his ref.
A possible quetzalcoatl-mode for my Ahkaskar-Chimera character. I was working on this about a month ago and just sort of forgot about it.

Some planning/design sketches and a ref for aotential update to Chimera which would include traits of the Ahk design I did about a month ago. If I go through with this, he’d also be renamed to Ahk.
Suhana Stormrage, the irritable old warrior. She’s one of the oldest in the ‘band but not one of the senior members. She was recruited after nearly becoming a gladium, having been discharged from her previous warband for nearly beating her old legionnaire to death after an argument about orders. The only thing she would say in her defense was that, “he was a fool and his orders were suicide.”
Suhana is half-sister to Soot Stormspite, and unlike her half-brother she is normally quiet and keeps to herself. She doesn’t hesitate to put the ‘band’s needs first.
She is very strategically-minded and has a hidden fondness for cooking, especially when the recipe involves ghost peppers or some sort of hot sauce. (which she can and will drink straight from the bottle!) She regularly makes Spicy Chocolate Cookies, which only she or Ahkaskar actually eat.
It’s kind of a running joke that no one knows what Ahk’s face looks like. All they ever see is a big pair of horns. (It’s like his thing) Occasionally someone remembers his nose ring.
But then sometimes you get one of those cutscenes where his good eye just barely peeks out around the horns.
